The Renault-Nissan joint venture continues its global electrification campaign with the Seville, after signing a partnership with the local city council. As always, the papers will guarantee Renault-Nissan the introduction of electric vehicles in 2011 with support of local authorities, plus the access to the Cartuja 93 Science and Technology Park for field-testing.
According to a press release issued by Renault, the agreement was jointly signed by Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, Mayor of Seville, Isaías Pérez Saldaña, President of CARTUJA 93 S.A., Javier Redondo, Zero Emission Program Manager from Nissan Iberia and Jean-Pierre Laurent, Managing Director and President of Renault España.
This isn't the first step Renault makes in Spain in terms of electric vehicles. The French carmaker announced in October 2009 that Twizy Z.E. will be manufactured at its local Valladolid plant, making its the first mass-produced EV in the country. As a result, Renault tried to sign as many Zero-Emission agreements as possible, including with authorities in Barcelona and Madrid.
Presented at the Frankfurt Auto Show, Twizy Z.E. is an all-electric two-seater vehicle powered by a 15 kW electric motor that outputs 70 Nm of torque, and with an acceleration performance compared to that of a 125cc motorbike reaching a top speed of 75 km/h. The mobility range can reach 100 km on a single charge.
If we're going to trust rumors surrounding the Twizy topic, the car will be priced at around EUR5,000, which will make it the cheapest electric vehicle to date.
