Renault-Nissan Partners with Guangzhou and Donfeng Motors

The Renault-Nissan zero Emission alliance is moving deeper into China with the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Japanese-French alliance and the municipality of Guangzhou and local manufacturer Dongfeng Motors.

"Today, we are proud to partner with Guangzhou City through the signing of this MOU," Eiji Makino, Global Zero Emission Business Unit of Nissan general manager said in a release.

"The introduction of electric vehicles brings CO2 reduction and cleaner environment in Guangzhou. Technology for zero emissions mobility is a reality and we are fully prepared and committed to bringing this technology in the very near future."

As with all the agreements signed before by the two carmakers, this one also calls for representatives of involved parties in working together to find solutions and opportunities to promote the use of zero emission vehicles, this time in Guangzhou.

According to the alliance, a feasibility study will be drafted to show the best way through which a viable infrastructure will be built, as well as the ways through which the local government will be able to provide an incentive to make electric vehicles accessible to customers, as well as raising awareness on zero emission vehicles in the city.

The countless agreements signed by Renault-Nissan around the world this year are of even more importance as the partnership celebrates its 10th anniversary. So far, some 30 other agreements have been signed with local partners, paving the way for the introduction of the Leaf electric vehicle starting 2010 in Japan, the US and Europe and in China from 2011.
