Renault Nissan Moves to Chile

The efforts made by the Renault Nissan alliance when it comes to prepare the way for the introduction of the Nissan Leaf have somewhat slowed down, compared to last year, but are still continuing with announcements of new agreements signed with governments across the world.

The last such announcement concerns the Ministerio del Medio Ambiente in Chile, with which Renault Nissan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the introduction of a program meant to study the necessities and possibilities of operating EVs in the country.

As with similar agreements signed elsewhere, the two manufacturers will work together with the Chilean government towards studying, promoting and implementing zero emissions mobility, complete with related technology and infrastructure.

"Nissan is proud to be leading the way towards the development of an advanced, zero-emission driven society in Latin America. This new partnership with the Chilean government will allow us to further explore the possibilities of EVs in a rich and varied region like Latin America,"
said Carlos Tavares, chairman of the Management Committee for the Americas.

"We look forward to beginning this joint work with the Chilean government so we can set the foundation for what will be a new era for electrical transportation in Chile and Nissan throughout the Americas."

Under the agreement, Renault and Nissan will chip in their resources and knowledge in the field, while the Ministerio del Medio Ambiente will take care of the administrative, legal and technical requirements needed by the carmakers' electric vehicle to become a success on the local market.
