One of the spiciest ways to take part in Nurburgring Touriestenfahrten (Tourist Days) adventures sees drivers of underdog machines giving those behind the wheel of shiny sportscars and supercars a hard time. We've always brought you stories of the kind, such as the one that saw the Renault Megane RS R26.R oficially outgunning the BMW 1M Coupe on the Green Hell back in 2011.
Well, the years that have passed since have seen the M2 taking on the role of the junior M car, but this hasn't stopped aficionados from trying to beat such bimmers in their R26 Meganes.
The latest example of the sort, which involved a non-R model, came over the weekend, when the guy behind the wheel of such a Renault decided to chase an M2.
Alas, the Nordschleife sprint led to a brutal crash that might've totaled the hot hatch.
The accident took place in Brunnchen, one of the most dangerous sections of the track, with the Megane RS R26 driver getting it wrong from the very beginning.
To be more precise, we can see the outer rear wheel of the front-wheel-drive animal stepping onto the grass as it enters the first bend of the section.
This caused the rear end to step out violently, and while the driver reacted swiftly, the man fell into the overcorrection trap. As such, the spicy compact ended up sliding the other way, hitting the guardrail nose-first.
The Megane RS bounced back onto the track, with the hot hatchback spinning its way across the asphalt. This caused the Renault to have a second encounter with the protection element - the vehicle hit the barrier with its side, with the violent impact causing serious damage - the passenger's side airbags were deployed (we're looking at a right-hand-drive machine).
Fortunately, the roll cage inside the vehicle seems to have done its job well, with the passenger cell maintaining its shape. We have no reports of the crash having led to injuries.
