Brake-checking is a nasty and dangerous stunt to pull on any highway, no matter how busy or not it is. Even so, the driver of his white Renault Megane must aim for the title of most reckless driver in the UK.
The incident happened earlier this month and was captured on the dash camera of the HGV the driver brake-checked. It was released online just now.
The truck was going on the fast lane of the M18, outside Doncaster in the UK, when the white Megane came in front of it. For whatever reason, the driver started braking, until the truck bumped into it. In the video you can find at the bottom of the page, you can notice a small dent after the impact.
Eventually, the Renault pulled on the shoulder of the highway, with the truck following its lead. Believe it or not, but it was the driver of the Renault who was upset about the outcome, so he got out of the car and went to the truck driver to confront him. He probably didn’t expect the HGV to bump into his car, despite all provocation.
The video has no audio so there’s no way of knowing the words that were exchanged. Judging by the attitude of the Megane driver, though, he didn’t bother getting out and coming over just to exchange pleasantries.
Police were called on the scene and they arrested the man on suspicion of drunk driving. No word yet on what prompted him to go and brake-check a truck, or how he explained to the cops the accident. South Yorkshire Police confirm that the man was charged with drunk driving, driving over the limit and driving without insurance.
Sadly, there is no punishment for being stupid, so unless he learned his lesson, he might pull this stunt again.
