For many first-time car buyers in Russia, the Renault Logan was a good choice, since its affordability and practicality made it a good everyday ride. Now, the company has started sales of the new Logan generation, and it's even better. We know it as the Logan II, revealed at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, or the new Symbol for the North African market. However, the French company says it's been re-engineered with the Russian roads and driver preferences in mind, plus it's locally produced.
Right now, the only engine available in Russia is the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder. It's rated in accordance with Euro-5 standard, has just 8 valves, produces 82 horsepower and 134 Nm of torque.
The only transmission option is a five-speed manual. Performance figures released by Renault Russia claim 0 to 100 km/h in anywhere between 10.5 and 11.9 seconds, depending on the tire fitted to the car. Top speed will not exceed 172 km/h.
Fuel consumption ratings are 9.8 l/100 km in the city, 5.8 l/100 km highway and 7.2 l/100 km combined. CO2 emissions are a very non-impressive 168 grams per kilometer of CO2.
For trim levels will be available to Russian customers – Access, Comfort, Privilege and Luxe Privilege. Prices start at 355,000 rubles for the base model with unpainted bumpers and steel wheels.
Production will take place at the Togliatti factory shared by the Renault Nisan. "The Togliatti facility, which will have a manufacturing capacity of 350,000 units per year at full ramp-up, will soon become home to one of the largest platform-sharing programs in the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The facility already produces the LADA Largus multi-purpose van and the Nissan Almera sedan. Later this year, another Renault model, as well as the first Datsun model for Russia, will be produced at the facility," the French company has previously stated.
The new logan is based on Renault-Nissan's B0 subcompact car platform, with some components shared with the previous generation. The new Logan is currently also being produced in Romania, Morocco, Turkey and Brazil and it’s offered in two body styles, four-door sedan and five-door station wagon.
