Renault Launches Clio Edition One: Inspired by Mercedes?

Every time Mercedes launches a new car, the waiting list is at least 6 months, if not double that. So it makes perfect sense to buy the Edition 1 version, even though it's much more expensive, because it comes loaded with kit. Now Renault is trying to do the same, the Clio Edition One is arguably a little less desirable.

One photo is all we get for this supposedly special edition. A worthy copy of the Mercedes system, this is not. But that doesn't mean we wouldn't buy one of these Clios, especially as it was pretty good even before the recent facelift.

The Edition One trim will be available for a limited time on both the hatchback and estate models. You get all the trim for the Intens model plus extras. A key feature is the Pearlescent White paint, the kind that reminds us of the Laguna Monaco GP edition.

The Clio Edition One can also be ordered in Titanium Grey, Glacier White, Platine Grey or Etoile Black. For a more upmarket look, there are also unique roof decals, shiny black mirror caps, and 17-inch alloys tat remind us of the RS model.

Here is a list of all the standard features:

• Bose® Sound System (6 loudspeakers and a subwoofer)
• Full LED Pure Vision headlights, Edition One exterior trim with roof decals and exclusive door mirror housings
• Interior trim matching exterior trim
• Mixed synthetic leather /smoke gray velour upholstery
• Door sills and protective mats, 17-inch Optémic black diamond-cut alloy wheels
• Dark-tinted rear windows
• Full-grain leather steering wheel
• Aluminum pedal assembly
• Front central armrest

The Edition One can be yours from €19,650 in France. Available engines include the TCe 90, TCe 120 with an automatic, dCi 90 and 110. So that's almost everything. Estate models will cost 600 euros more than their regular equivalents.

As for options, we'd highly recommend the fixed sunroof for only €200 and the City Plus Pack, which adds front sensors and a reversing camera for €350.
