Remember last week's interesting teaser for a brand new Renault concept? Now that car is out, and it's more than we expected. Say hello to the KWID, a bad name for a good concept, probably previewing a sub-4-meter crossover SUV from the French car company.
Renault already has the Captur B-segment crossover, but at 4.1 meters in length it's too big to take advantage of certain regulation in the Indian auto market. So being compact was a goal for the KWID's designers, but you wouldn't say that after looking it in the eyes.
With a large grille and squinting headlights, it looks like a dog that's ready to bite you. From the side, you'd be forgiven for thinking you're looking at a Dakar buggy, since the KWID has long suspension travel and big double-shocks at the back.
The interior is a blend of futurism and naturalism. The seats take inspiration from recent Renault concepts, like Initiate Paris. They look like wild vines grew on them, offering a relaxing and supportive feel. But the copper dash makes you think you're behind the helm of UFO.
The KWID is not just another French concept, it's the first concept they've ever revealed outside of Europe, which shows just how important India is right now.
