Renault Kadjar Gets EDC Auto for TCe 130 Engine and Flagship Trim in the UK

The Renault Kadjar is not really an SUV, more like a large minivan that also looks tough on the outside. It gets you places, and now you don't even have to change your gears, even if you want it with the Energy TCe 130 engine.

We really don't know why you would do that. You see, TCe 130 is French talk for a 1.2-liter turbo engine that will give you 132 PS (we checked, French website says it's not 130) and 205 Nm of torque. It's always been available with an EDC twin-clutch automatics (on the Clio GT and old Megane), but now that gearbox is a 7-speed instead of a 6-speed for better efficiency.

This bad boy is now yours to buy in the UK, provided you pay £21,395 for the Dynamique Nav TCe 130 Auto EDC trim level. Priced at £1,200 more than the equivalent manual version, the EDC dual clutch transmission changes gears fast with CO2 output and combined fuel consumption almost the same as that of the manual. Yes, it works exactly like DSG. This particular model is said to reach 100 km/h in 10 seconds and has a top speed of 118 mph.

A real man changes his gears and doesn't rely on machines to do it for him. But that doesn't mean there aren't other crossovers that can do it for you at roughly the same money. These include the Nissan Qashqai and pretty soon the SEAT Ateca as well.

Renault UK has also deemed it fit to introduce another trim level, a top-of-the-range one. It's called Signature S Nav, and it supposedly has everything (except a catchy name).

Renault says that you pay from £23,695 OTR - a premium of £1,400 over the Signature Nav but with £1,750 of additional equipment. You can't argue with that logic! Standard equipment includes panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, hands-free key card, heated and folding door mirrors, R-Link 2 Multimedia system with 7” touchscreen, TomTom Live services with Western European mapping and BOSE sound system.
