French automaker Renault has unveiled the Duster Detour concept today, at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show in South Africa.
Based on the company’s successful Dacia/Renault Duster SUV, the Detour concept was co-developed with a design studio in Johannesburg as “spectacular show-car” that mixes “a little Mad Max with a touch of the Terminator and some Dakar dust’n dirt”.
Painted in a two-tone pearl yellow/matte grey scheme, the one-off SUV sports widened wheel arches, 18-inch bespoke alloy wheels, all-terrain tires and a much-needed increased ride height. Other enhancements include tinted windows, redesigned headlamps, custom front grille, darkened LED taillights, double exhaust and a rear diffuser.
We wouldn’t call it spectacular, but we have to admit it’s a great improvement over the plain-looking stock Dacia/Renault Duster. Unfortunately, the Detour won’t become more than a concept car.
