Renault Clio RS 200 Is Unleashed at Geneva

Beside the RS version of Megane, the French manufacturer Renault used the 2009 Geneva Auto Show to introduce the new Clio Renaultsport 200, a new model especially "aimed at drivers looking for a comfortable, well-equipped, status-enhacing car which places the accent on driving pleasure," as Renault praised the features of the car.

This sporty Clio is powered by a naturally-aspirated engine with a specific output of 100 horsepower per liter, as Renault mentioned in a statement for the press. Total power is now rated at 200 hp, with maximum torque reaching 215 Nm at 5,400 rpm. And in case you were wondering, the Clio RS 200 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, with top speed increased by 2 mph from the predecessor RS 197 to 141 mph (226.9 km/h).

There are three interior trims available, with customers able to select the color of the seatbelts, dashboard inserts and upholstery (Silver Grey, Yellow, Dark Anthracite). An optional seat package designed with Recaro and incorporating lateral airbags, is available as standard.

Several customizations parts are also included in the new range, such as unique body colors, interior trims, upholsteries (including leather) and alloy wheels. Carminat TomTom navigation system, a hands-free card, cruise control and speed limiter are available, too.

"Since 2000, the successive variants of Clio Renaultsport have made it the best-selling performance hatchback in its class, with worldwide sales totalling more than 70,000 cars. The strengths of the chassis, brakes and steering of the Clio Renaultsport 197 combined with the precision of its gearbox have resulted in the model being widely praised as the class leader, by the media and demanding owners alike," Renault continued its praise.

The new Clio Renaultsport 200 is manufactured at the Alpine factory in Dieppe, France and is expected to go on sale in the UK in May.
