Renault has announced that it's finally plugged the gap between the normal Clio, which tops out at 90 PS, and the Clio RS, which has 200 PS. The car in question is of course the Clio GT 120 EDC, which has gone on sale today, June 13th, with process starting at €20,990 for the hatch and €21,590 for the estate model.
The previous version of the Clio GT had a 1.6-liter engine and a manual gearbox. This one has gone all high-tech and offers a 1.2-liter turbo engine from Renault's TCe family. This isn't their first turbo 1.2, but unlike the one on the Twingo and Wind, this unit has 120 hp, 20 more than normal. It's also coupled to a brand new automatic gearbox with twin clutches. The six-speed unit unit is called an EDC and the technology is shared with Ford's PowerShift for the Fiesta.

With this powertrain, Clio GT 120 EDC’s combined-cycle fuel consumption is just 5.2 litres/100 km, equivalent to CO2 emissions of 120g/km.

The car is relatively fast and also sportier than a normal Clio,. having front springs and dampers that are respectively 40% and 30% stiffer.

Equipment is generous, but there are options you might want to consider: rear parking sensors for €250 or a camera with sensors for €450 and the RS Monitor 2.0 which is great for the track and costs an extra €250. Metallic paint and leather interior (€1,250) are really expensive, so you might have to put up with a black interior and a simple white paintjob.
