Renault Clio Facelift Might Look like This, Thanks to the Megane's Styling

You might think that this facelift is a little too severe, but that's because you've been looking at too many German cars. While VW and BMW only do a bit of nip and tuck, the guys over at Renault change everything when the company brass allows them to.

We can still remember that the Clio 2 RS looked nothing like itself after the facelift. The same can be said about the Clio 3 RS, which got a completely new front end and an integrated exhaust system.

By no means are we saying that Renault facelifts are all successful, just that they are radical. Right now, the Clio is one of the oldest cars in the inventory of the French automaker, having made its debut in 2012 at the Paris Motor Show. That means it's due for a facelift in 2016 and is probably undergoing lab testing as we speak.

Of course, Renault has its hands full at the moment, developing models like the new Fluence sedan and Scenic MPV. But considering how popular the Clio is with European customers, its updates should have a high priority.

RM Design decided to render Clio's mid-life improvements by posting some of the design features from the new Megane onto it. These include headlights that seem to have a monkey's tail at the bottom and new (fake) air intakes to the sides of the front bumper.

Around the back, they changed the graphics of the taillights using an LED right light probably borrowed from the Kadjar.

There are plenty of things we'd change about the Clio, but some of them are due to personal preference. For example, the steering is so light that it feels like it's not connected to anything. However, Hyundai does that feature too, and there's no shortage of people who like it that way.

Although funky, the Clio 4's interior may not be the best finished. For example, the plastic inserts for the steering wheel have sharp edges and the dashboard is tricky to read. But it's nothing major that cannot be fixed.

As far as the engines are concerned, we don't expect much to change from the average consumer's point of view. The 1.2-liter TCe turbo might be pushed to 130 PS and 205 Nm, but that's about it.
