Back in September, we showed you the first photos of a Clio-based crossover/SUV that was undergoing testing under heavy camouflage. Today, the car can be confirmed as being this, the Renault Captur, a name it shares with a cool concept car that gave us many of the new design cues of the French carmaker.
As you can see, the Captur is just a slightly raised version of the Clio IV, which means it’s not going to be that tricky to figure out the engine range. On the Clio, this currently consists of a base 1.2 75 PS unit, a new three-cylinder called the TCe 90, two 1.5-liter diesels with 75 and 90 PS respectively. Next year, a 1.2-liter turbo with 120 PS will also be introduced.
The Captur concept came with a twin-turbo Energy dCi 160 engine, which means there’s still a chance the 1.6 dCi 130 from the Megan will be used.
Obviously, all-wheel drive will be optional, just like the Nissan Juke or Opel Mokka. Transmission choices are likely to include a five-speed manual and the new six-speed EDC double clutch.
