Renault Boss Pushes for Grosjean F1 Return

As it happened in 2010, the upcoming season of Formula One will not have many French-connected elements in the paddock. With no F1 circuit, no F1 drivers and, starting 2011, no F1 manufacturer, France's only meaningful name in the sport will remain that of Lotus Renault Racing team manager Eric Boullier.

And it is the same Boullier that plans to change all that as soon as possible. In a recent interview with autohebdo.fr, the Enstone based team boss admitted that he is working hard to bring former Renault driver Romain Grosjean back onto the F1 grid in the near future. According to recent reports in France, Grosjean is set to become the team's third driver in 2011.

I would like to see a Frenchman on the podium, or at least with a good team,” said Boullier, hinting at the driver who impressed many during his years in the GP2 Series and made his F1 debut with Renault a couple of years back.

While taking care of business at Enstone, Boullier continues to head the driver management company Gravity Sport – under Genii Capital ownership – a role that he used to have before being appointed team manager for Renault. And as Gravity Sport boss, on of his aims is to see a French driver on the F1 grid in the next few years.

We talk about it at Enstone or Genii Capital very often and we are trying everything to reach a solution quickly. But nothing is simple. We need a no.1 at a very high level and we need Petrov and what he brings. We are working very hard to get Romain Grosjean a seat and also to bring along other young people. France needs to have a good driver in F1,” added the French manager.

Another French driver to keep an eye on for the future is Jules Bianchi, although he is not part of the Gravity Sport scheme, but a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy. The 21-year old racer has recently signed a new deal in the GP2 Series with ART Grand Prix and was appointed reserve driver for Ferrari F1 Team for 2011.
