Renault is celebrating the 50th birthday of the Alpine A110 Berlinetta this year, and to wow the crowd at the Paris Motor Show and to test the waters for a possible production version, they will be showing a tribute concept there according to AutoCar.
“These things live by the grace of the day,” said van den Acker. “In my view, the best thing for a designer is always to have something cooking in the corner. Then when the planets line up, you have something ready. We have to ask: ‘Is there room in today’s car market to build something that could be compared to a Porsche?’ In any case, for an Alpine to make sense financially, it would have to sell in North America and China.”
It’s unlikely this will be a rear-engined car like the original, but they could pull a hybrid on us and make it all-wheel drive, since this is a general trend with concepts these days. So only time will tell if Renault wants a Posche-fighter.
