Renault Alpine Coming in 2015 as Porsche Boxster Rival

Peugeot and Citroen have fallen from grace with people who love K&N filters and have spiky hair, but Renault still has a reputation for delivering some of the most fun compact cars in the world. We are of course talking about the three RS models, but soon, the French will move into a different field with the revival of the Alpine.

This new sportscar will sit higher than the Megane RS in terms of price and will rival Porsche’s Boxster. The car will be the child of collaboration between renault and Caterham and will arrive much sooner than was previously expected.

Older reports said it would take four years to develop, but the good news is it could be ready by 2015. AutoCar recently reported that it will be focused towards being fun and engaging to drive, like the MX-5 or the new Toyobaru, not a track machine like the Trophy car based concept.

Power will be provided by some sort of Renault engine producing around 250 horsepower. Emphasis will be placed on recreating the spirit of the original Alpine, so it will be very French in styling and will feature plenty of modern technologies, some of them brand new.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
