Renault Alpine Based on Nissan GT-R?

For a while now, rumors of the Alpine’s return have made headlines, but every one was proven to be just a myth. The one we’re still hoping to become reality is that the French carmaker wants to bring a concept based on the original design to celebrate the Alpine’s 50th anniversary at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September.
Renault marketing director Stephen Norman spoke to HeadlineAuto about such a project, suggesting this will be a sportscar with a bit of comfort, not focusing solely on being light. Norman says the Alpine needs to be "made to the highest specification. We can't come out with something that has wind-up windows and rubber mats. We can't lift things from the parts bin, we have to make a business case for it and we have not yet done that."

CadAdvice, who first picked up on the story suggest the Nissan GT-R would serve as a starting point. However, it won’t simply be a case of swopping bodies and changing interiors. We’re pretty sure that Renault will make the concept either electric or a hybrid, and that the production model is still a long way off.
