The Renault 5, also know as the R5, is the predecessor of the Clio from back in the day before airbags and safety governors. This granddaddy of the supermini wold supermini was produced and by the French automaker in two generations between 1972 and 1996.
Nearly 5.5 million were built, but we’re more interested in grandpa’s track record with the ladies... it’s gaming skills as it were. From what we’ve been able to find out, this campaign was run in France starting March 1989 in print only. But why a mermaid?

The word mermaid is a combination o the French word for sea and maid - a young girl or woman. Usually, sailors would be attracted by the beautiful songs of these creatures and end up in their watery graves.
But this surfer stud seems to have stumbled upon a beached beauty. Is he going to throw this one back until she’s a legal catch or is he going to put her in the car and bring her to her mother. Either way, the Renault 5 is the only car in history to have rescued a mermaid.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
