Remember the Van Buren Sisters with the Sisters’ Centennial Ride

One hundred years after the Van Buren sisters proved that women could be as determined and hardcore as men when it comes to riding a motorcycle, Indian launches an invitation to all riders to join the Sisters' Centennial Ride across the USA.

The ride is a cross-country trip that loosely follows the route Augusta and Adeline Van Buren took a century ago, primarily on the Lincoln highway from New York to San Francisco. The Sisters' Centennial Ride will kick off in NY on July 3rd and will reach San Francisco 20 days later.

Back in 1916, the Van Buren sisters rode over 55,00 miles (8,850 km) on their 1915 Indian machines, known then by the name of "motocycles." The broke the stereotypes of their time, showing that Augusta's words " Woman can if she will" were nothing short of true.

Indian encourages people to join the ride, be they singles, couples, women and men, and promises a unique riding experience celebrating a century since the Van Buren showed the world that ladies can ride across continents just like gents do.

As a part of their involvement in the Sisters' Centennial Ride, Indian will sponsor select riders with the loan of a new 2016 bike. Among the sponsored riders we can find Robert Van Buren, the great nephew of the Van Buren Sisters and Sarah “SeCCRet” Moreau. Sarah, who is on her way to breaking Bessie Stringfield's cross-USA record, will be riding from Los Angeles. Sarah “SeCCRet” Moreau is looking forward to surpassing Bessie's eight solo cross-continental rides during the '30s and '40s.

The Sisters' Centennial Ride will also be raising funds along the way, with all the money being "donated to Final Salute, a national women’s veterans’ organization and The Women’s Coalition of Motorcyclists who help provide motorcycle training," as Indian Motorcycle informs.

Here are the key towns and events along the route:
