Reithofer Remains BMW CEO Until 2016

The Supervisory Board of BMW AG held a meeting today and decided to extend the contract of Chairman of the Board of Management Dr. Ing. Norbert Reithofer (54), until 2016. Reithofer has been a member of the Board of Management since 16 March 2000, and Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG since September 2006.

“This step will provide continuity over the years ahead and ensure trust and constructive cooperation between the Supervisory Board and the Board of Management,” stated Professor Dr. Ing. Joachim Milberg, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of BMW AG, after the meeting concluded.

“Dr. Reithofer’s reappointment will allow us to maintain the successful cooperation between the Board of Management and the Works Council. I am confident that all of us here at the BMW Group will continue working towards the same goals and that we can therefore be optimistic about the future,” stated Manfred Schoch, Chairman of the General Works Council.

Reithofer joined BMW in 1987 as head of maintenance planning. From 1991 to 1994 he was Director of the Body in White Production Division, an internal department of BMW research and development department.

From 1994 to 1997 Reithofer served as Technical Director of BMW South Africa, and from 1997 to 2000, he was President BMW Manufacturing Corporation (USA), based in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

In March 2000 he returned to Munich to join the BMW Board of Management, responsible for production. On September 1, 2006 he succeeded Helmut Panke as Chairman of the Board and CEO of BMW.
