Over in America, the 2022 Forester has been out and about enough time to even gain a Wilderness version. Meanwhile, the Old Continent division is just celebrating the introduction of the regular fixture.
Subaru has a major anniversary this year: its Forster sport utility vehicle celebrates 25 years since its first apparition. It debuted back in 1997 and is currently running through the second part of the fifth generation. And, at long last, the 2022 model year is also making its way into Europe.

Offered as the 2022 Subaru Forester e-Boxer, the popular SUV (which has sold more than 357k units in Europe to date) is looking to entice its faithful customer base with the “refreshed, best-equipped version to date.” Aside from the already known styling modifications, it touts additional safety features, enhanced capability, newly-added convenience perks, as well as improved driving dynamics.

As far as safety is concerned, the 2022MY Forester fronts the chapter with the fourth generation of the company’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology pack. It now has a total of eleven functions, three of them being new: Automatic Emergency Steering, Adaptive Cruise control with Lane Centering, and Lane Departure Prevention (it has enhanced dividing line recognition).

Subaru’s facial recognition technology, the Driver Monitoring System, now doubles as a convenience option: the driver gesture control function allows for changing the set temperature of the automatic climate control system. The same standard S-AWD system is combined with an e-Boxer powertrain, but the e-Active Shift Control function is also new.

The company’s off-road prowess is enhanced with an updated control function for the X-Mode system. It now has “the ability to automatically re-engage once the vehicle speed drops to 35 kph (22 mph) or less.” Neat, right? We are being slightly ironical, of course.

Naturally, the slightly more rugged styling based on the Dynamic X Solid design philosophy would not be complete without a few new paintjobs: Cascade Green Silica, Brilliant Bronze Metallic, and Autumn Green Metallic. Unfortunately, there is still no word on pricing or market availability.
