Red Bull Scrap F-Duct for Canada

Red Bull's F-duct system will remain in the development phase for the upcoming month, as the device will reportedly not make it to the Red Bull RB6 in the Canadian Grand Prix. The Milton Keynes based team initially used F-duct in the Friday practice session of the Turkish Grand Prix, but data collected by the engineers showed that it didn't work properly.

Additionally, Sebastian Vettel confirmed the device was useless on the track, leading to Red Bull's decision to eliminate it prior to the Saturday qualifying. Consequently, both Vettel and teammate Mark Webber ran their cars without the device on Sunday, which may very well be a good explanation to why McLaren Mercedes had closed the gap on the Austrian team so much.

But anyways, talking to Austrian television 'Sport und Talk aus dem Hangar 7' on Tuesday – about something else than Mark Webber's presumable mistake in the Turkish GP – Red Bull's advisor Helmut Marko confirmed his team will wait until Valencia to return the F-duct on the RB6.

It did not work perfectly. Therefore, we are developing it further. We will bring it again to Valencia,” said Marko, according to the aforementioned interview.

Not using the F-duct in Canada will likely affect the team's performances two weekends from now, as Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is well known for its speedy layout and long straight before the pit entry. That portion of the track will see a deficit in top speed for the two Red Bull racers, as the other teams using F-duct will probably record top speeds some 8-10 mph faster.

Until now, McLaren Mercedes, Ferrari, Mercedes GP, BMW Sauber-Ferrari, Force India and Williams have all debuted their F-ducts sooner or later, and will benefit from the continuous development of their device in Canada. Renault also announced they will fit their still-developing F-duct on the R29 as soon as possible, hopefully from as early as the Montreal race.
