Red Bull Owner Promises Same Rivalry Between Vettel and Webber

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz argued that the rivalry between his two drivers Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber during the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 championship will be just as fierce as it was back in 2010.

As we recall, the battle for the world title between those two did not always prove beneficial for their team last year, as Red Bull has lost a lot of points in Turkey (when they collided while in 1-2 position with a few laps to go) and had a pretty tensed relationship to manage throughout the rest of the campaign.

However, all is well when it ends well (so they say) and apparently Mateschitz would fancy the same type of battle between those two in 2011. Despite the duo clearing the air on their relationship after the Abu Dhabi finale last season, we'll likely have a repeat this season. Word of the Red Bull owner.

They won't exchange gifts,” said Mateschitz in a recent interview with British magazine Autosport. “Therefore I expect a similar situation to last year. And they remain both free to race. We do not change our strategy.”

In addition, the Red Bull owner also addressed rumors that Webber will be ending his career with his team (and potentially also the sport) after the 2011 campaign, since his contract with the Milton Keynes based squad runs out at the end of the year.

He has a body of steel, and he is mentally in perfect shape. Why should he (quit)?” added the Austrian billionaire, while hinting that prolonging Webber's stay at Red Bull might not be an option. “If he does not continue with us, he will be offered a contract somewhere else. He is a top driver, at the same level as Sebastian. They both are exceptional guys, and this includes characters.”
