Red Bull Mazda RX-7 Drifts Over New Zealand’s Crown Range

Drifting is gaining more and more popularity and the world has recently witnessed one of the greatest stunts in the history of this high octane sport. The highest tarmac road in New Zealand, the Crown Range, was closed for the public, being left at the discretion of a Red Bull Mazda RX-7 drift animal.

The 750 hp of the rotary engine were manhandled by a guy who seems to know more about powersliding than everything else, Mad Mike Whiddett. You can watch him devour a 47-corner course in the clip below.

The drifting maneuvers are out of this world and so is the filming. Thus, we’re inviting you to sit down, relax and watch the devilish RX-7 play up to 140 mph (232 km/h) over the 6.5 miles (10.4 km) of road featuring an elevation of 3,500 feet (1,076 meters).

"I think drifters have an innate ability to slip from reality when driving up a road like the Crown Range in normal circumstances. For me, having the opportunity to get behind the wheel of my machine, push it to the limit and conquer the Crown is a dream turned into a reality," Whiddett said.
