Red Bull Convinced Button and Hamilton Will Come to Blows

The fact that two British champions, driving for a British team and fighting for the British Grand Prix win this very weekend should be enough to cover an entire marketing campaign of the Silverstone race. And that's clearly the topic on everyone's lips these days, as more and more racers, team principals of former F1 champions are speaking their mind about this weekend's much-expected duel between Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

After Damon Hill made an analogy based on the Aesop's Fables and compared the two with with the tortoise and the hare, now Mark Webber and Christian Horner of Red Bull Racing argue that the “love” between the two British teammates won't last for long in 2010. And that's not because they hate each other, but because a boiling point will become inevitable once both will be caught in the title fight.

I don't want the headlines to be Hamilton and Jenson are going to hit each other this weekend, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that it's inevitable given what's at stake, they are both hungry, both driven. If I don't care, if I'd got no competition about me, no fire and desire about me, I'd get on with Seb (Vettel) like a house on fire,” said Webber.

One nice preview of that will be this weekend's British Grand Prix, which both drivers are dying to win. While Button has never won his home race, Ham will want to win it for the second time, after his masterpiece performance in 2008. Needless to say, team orders will count for nothing this weekend.

They are working hard to put a bit of smoke and mirrors up but those two are racing hard. If you are always racing at the front, inevitably it's going to come,” added the 33-year old Aussie.

His team manager Christian Horner echoed his comments on this topic, insisting that only a minor incident could set the stage for a big fire between the two.

It's inevitable ... that in a competitive sport they will be pushing each other and perhaps won't be having so much of a love-in when that does happen. It will only take one small incident for things to flare up between the McLaren drivers, I'm sure,” added Horner about the two drivers that are currently leading the overall classification within 6 points of each other.
