Red Bull Celebrate First F1 Title in History

While we’re still a weekend away from finding out the name of Formula One’s next champion, the race in the constructors’ classification is now over. Thanks to their 4th 1-2 finish of the season, in Brazil, Red Bull racing have clinched their maiden F1 title as a team in the series, one race before the final chequered flag of 2010.

If the RB5 car designed by Red Bull’s Adrian Newey last year won the title of the fastest racer of 2009, yet the team failed to grab a single title at the end of that campaign, the design guru can now fully enjoy the success registered by the RB6. This is the third team Newey has won constructors championships with in F1, after stints at McLaren and Williams.

We had a good car last year but we weren't quite quick enough with the double diffuser at the beginning of the year. This year has been the car has been quick but we have had a lot of problems, be it mechanical or whatever,” said Newey after the Brazilian Grand Prix, at the end of which Red Bull have gone 48 points clear of main rivals McLaren.

This is amazing, to have done it with this team. To be with it from near the start and for us to have jointly built the team up to win the Constructors' Championship is a fantastic achievement for all the team in Milton Keynes.”

“(…) Certainly the team didn't have the infrastructure of the big ones. When I joined Williams, and then McLaren, I was very lucky the teams had the infrastructure and you could just go about designing the car. Here it's been a bigger task, building everything up, getting the operation together and everybody in Milton Keynes has risen to that task fantastically,” he added.

Team manager Christian Horner also showed his delight over Red Bull’s success this season, which saw the Austrian team clinch 14 pole positions out of 18 races, along with 8 wins and 10 additional podiums.

Inevitably for the team the constructors' is where they are measured against their peers in the pit lane. From the team point of view the constructors' is the one that is held most closely to people's hearts. To the public, the drivers' is what has the most prestige attached to it. In different ways within the team they have an equal value,” said Horner.
