Red Bull Boss Shows Some Regret Over Front Wing Move

Christian Horner admitted his regret for not mentioning his front wing decision to Mark Webber prior to the Saturday qualifying at Silverstone. Less than half an hour before the Saturday running, the team let the Australian know that his car's newly-developed front wing will go to his teammate Sebastian Vettel for the weekend, which brought the Aussie's frustrations to a high sky level.

After the qualifying session, which Webber concluded in 2nd place, the 33-year old did not put his arm around his teammate at the media photo session, and further voiced his disappointment at the end of his winning performance on Sunday, when he told his race engineer via radio “Not bad for a No 2 driver”.

What happened next was reported by us during the course of yesterday. Knowing that this could cause a huge rift between his two drivers, Horner made the first step towards reconciliation earlier this week, when telling the Daily Telegraph that he regrets not explaining the situation to Webber prior to qualy.

I didn't have a conversation with Helmut or anyone from Red Bull regarding the decision to give Sebastian the wing. It was purely a technical decision, which I discussed with Adrian Newey,” said Horner for the aforementioned source.

My one regret is that I didn't have time to discuss the issue with Mark personally prior to qualifying as I'm sure that would have given him a more balanced understanding,” added the Red Bull boss, who had told the media after the race that the decision was based on the championship positions prior to the British Grand Prix (Vettel was ahead of Webber back then).

Horner also dismissed rumors that the mechanics of Mark Webber taunted the ones of Sebastian Vettel after the former clinched a dominant win at Silverstone, insisting that the bonuses within the team are handed in relation to the team's championship position, rather than the two drivers'.
