Red Bull Boss Faces Axe Unless Winning 2010 Title?

Although he has been quite critic of Red Bull Racing in recent weeks, former Grand Prix driver Gerhard Berger's latest comments come to defend the job done by team manager Christian Horner through the 2010 campaign of Formula One.

After the Korean Grand Prix, several rumors indicated the fact that Horner could be ousted by Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz in case the team doesn't bag at least one of the two titles in play, specifically drivers' and constructors'. In the former, both drivers Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel trail Fernando Alonso by 11 and 25 points respectively, while in the latter Red Bull leads from McLaren Mercedes by 27 points.

Speaking about these allegations, Berger believes they are “stupid and unfair”, especially since Red Bull has clearly become one of the “big boys” in Formula One.

The rumours are stupid and unfair. Red Bull are in a position to win both the constructors' and the drivers' world championships. An unsuccessful season looks very different to that,” said Berger, who is also a close friend of Mateschitz, in a recent interview with Auto Bild Motorsport.

The problem for Red Bull, if ousting Horner that is, would be that technical guru Adrian Newey could also leave the Milton Keynes factory with him. And that's because Horner's contract is tied to that of Newey's, none other than the mastermind behind 2010's fastest car in F1, the Red Bull RB6.

Horner is yet to answer those speculations, as he is now more focused on setting up an equal-support scheme for his two drivers in the last couple of races this season. In a recent interview on the team's official website, Horner confirmed both Webber and Vettel will get equal support for the title in Brazil and Abu Dhabi.
