BMW Motorrad announces another record year in motorcycle and maxi scooter sales, with the 2014 volumes being up a significant 7.2% over the previous year. The German manufacturer managed to sell 123,495 motorcycles and maxi scooters in 2014, up from the 115,215 units that reached final customers in 2013 and this marks another all-time high for the Bavarian maker. For the month of December alone, BMW sold 10.9% more bikes than in the same month of 2013, most likely because new models have been introduced, and this also helped for the overall higher volumes.
Germany retains its place as the biggest market in the world, with BMW selling almost a fifth of their production in the domestic dealerships. German customers bought 21,714 bikes and maxi scooters in 2014, accounting for more than 25 percent of the entire number of two-wheelers sold in the country over the entire year.

Outside Germany, the United States consolidates its place as the biggest international market, with 15,301 vehicles sold, 1,201 more than in 2013. Strong individual markets are also France (11,600), Italy (10,487) and Brazil (7,603).

Five new models launched worldwide in 2014, but the R1200GS remains the best-seller

BMW Motorrad introduced no less than five new models in 2014, with the C evolution electric maxi scooter being most likely the most solid step into the future of transport the Bavarian manufacturer ever made. Since the electric two-wheeler was launched in May 2014, almost 550 units have been sold, BMW reports.

However, the bike which has led the sales all these years remained the same. We are of course talking about the standard version of BMW’s adventure-tourer, the new generation R1200GS, powered by the liquid-cooled engine. The R1200GS adventure was sold in more than 40,000 units, with the biggest slice belonging to the standard version (24,380), while 16,242 riders opted for the Adventure-suffixed model.

It is now surprise that the R1200RT sport-touring icon is second in the best-selling charts for 2014, with 12,140 units sold. The R nineT was the fourth best-selling BMW bike, followed by the S1000 family, which saw more than 10,000 S1000R and S1000RR leaving the dealerships.

“The middle range models F 800 GS/GS Adventure (7,040/4,278 units) and F 700 GS (6,499 units) as well as the F 800 R (3,953 units) and F 800 GT (3,901 units) also remain very popular. The Maxi Scooters C 650 GT and C 600 Sport (6,391 units) were also well received,” BMW Motorrad adds.

More goodies are expected to reach the dealerships in 2015

2015 will be a very interesting year as well, as more models are expected to start shipping. It will be interesting to see how the new S1000RR will fare, while the new R1200R and R1200RS will add to the boxer family, too. The naked middleweight F800RR will reach the dealership floors in 2015, too.

Still, the biggest expectations come with the all-new S1000XR sport-adventure machine derived from the superbike platform, but with its focus shifted towards more comfort for longer travels.
