Reckless Scooter Rider vs Distracted Driver. Car Wins

Asia is probably one of the areas where we can meet the most frightening examples of reckless driving, and seeing scooter riders wearing a helmet is a truly rare experience.
Still, the presence of a helmet on a scooter rider’s head can be misleading at times. While other riders in their right mind know that a helmet must also be properly strapped in order to provide some protection when the going gets tough, it looks like this is not exactly a popular opinion among certain scooter riders.

A loose or unstrapped helmet is pretty much as useless as wearing a birthday paper cone for protection during a bike crash, and this is simply because it will be the very first thing to fly away from the impact, leaving the rider to test the strength of his or her head against that of the road surface.

Now couple this with an incredibly mindless behavior and a distracted driver, and you’ve got an accident like the one below. As if turning left across three lanes without even checking for traffic approaching from behind wasn’t already half-suicidal, you can notice that the car brakes only after the impact, a proof that the driver did not observe the incoming two-wheeler from his right side. Again, and again, the same question: who allows such riders to go out in traffic?
