With almost a year and a half ago we reported about the iconic British motorcycle brand Matchless changing hands once more, and the plans its new owners had for the restoration of the bike production.
Formerly in Greek hands, Matchless got Italian owners, Franco Malenotti and his two sons Emanuele and Michele. These three chaps are also the ones behind the revival of the Belstaff apparel brand, with their new collection introduced last year by the notorious fashion model Kate Moss. While until now, that was pretty much all about the new era in Matchless’ history, it looks like things are on the move.

Malenotti has apparently registered some sketches with the specific European offices, and we can now get a glimpse of what might the new Matchless bike will look like. Visordown believes that the new Matchless will be powered by an 1917cc air-cooled v-twin supplied by S&S Cycle, and in case this is true, we’d surely like to see a state of the art X-Wedge used.

The sketched Matchless bike is a rather interesting blend of retro and modern elements, and it may be a really successful recipe. The vintage fishtail dual exhausts are complemented by a leading link front suspension, but present-day elements, such as the USD fork stanchions or the horizontal Buell-ish underbelly rear monoshock can also be seen.

The backbone frame is also a modern walk on the wild side, and it should provide excellent torsional rigidity, making the bike a nice road-racer. Dual headlights and the unmistakable Matchless tank are also on the menu. The new Matchless is expected to be revealed this November at the EICMA in Milan.
