So far everyone’s been interested only in the M235i from the complete range of the new 2 Series model but you should also know that there are other options available as well, for everyone and not just for the adrenaline junkies.
Sure, the M Performance Automobile is the one to get as it has the best performance to price ratio in its segment, leaving the competition behind by quite a lot but some people might just want the Coupe body style coupled with the practicality of a diesel and that’s where other variants step in.

Like the 220d Rebecca Jackson from Carbuyer just reviewed. The car in question uses the same 2-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine as on every other BMW car out there that has the ‘20d’ nomenclature somewhere in the name. It makes 184 HP and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque allowing you to cover 50 miles on one gallon of fuel (4.5 l/100km) on average. The 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint is done in 7.2 seconds with a manual gearbox, like Rebecca had there.

The interior finish is worthy of the BMW badge and the materials used are of high quality but the same problem persists even on this new model, the same old design.

Another downside is that the engine is quite noisy, especially at idle and not when revved hard, as she said in her review. We can tell you that from out own experience.

On the road, the 220d is either sharp or comfortable, depending on the driving mode you prefer but it does suit to every taste. Being rear-wheel-drive, it makes for pretty steep competition for its rivals, the Volkswagen Scirocco and the Audi TT.
