Last month, we presented you the wettest dream an automotive enthusiasts can have. We are talking about the Red Bull X1, a virtual prototype that is the range-topper of the upcoming (as the game has been delayed since... forever this term is a sensible one, we know) Grand Turismo 5.
But the X1 is so much more that just that. It all comes from the vehicles’ basic principle. Let us explain. The X1 was created as the ultimate racing machine, with the animal submitting to absolutely zero rules. This means that there are no aerodynamic, engine or whatsoever restrictions that come to limit its performance. Anything that makes it go faster is allowed. This is Machiavelli on wheels!
And now it’s time for a little question: can you guess what’s even crazier that the X1 itself? The idea of such a vehicle evading from the virtual roads and coming straight to a real racetrack.
Ok, we’ll admit the X1 isn’t exactly going to come to Planet Earth and rock every racetrack in the world, but the car will become a reality.
According to Evo Magazine (via GT planet), a model of the vehicle has been built (this is exactly what you can see in the adjacent image). The model will be revealed at the Grand Turismo 5’s launch party, which will be held in Madrid on November 24-25.
The aforementioned source added that the X1 isn’t powered by a gas turbine engine and a CVT gearbox (as previous reports indicated). Instead, the vehicle uses an “F1-derived direct-injection 3-litre twin-turbo V6” that delivers a mind-blowing 1,483 hp at 15,000 rpm and a peak torque of 526 lb-ft (713 Nm) at 12,000 rpm.
