The trick to do today to be considered a true ‘BMW old school fan’ is complain about the modern cars’ weight. Everyone is complaining that they are bloated, heavy and so on…
But the truth of the matter is, they couldn’t be as light as previous models with all the tech that’s on them today. Furthermore, the oldies weren’t that light to begin with.

Moving on, we have here proof that the modern M4 is neither bloated nor overweight but instead pushing more power to the wheel than BMW claims. One forum member took his car to a local dyno to see exactly how much power reached the wheels.

In this regard he added a gallon of 100 octane fuel to his ¼ tank of regular gas and hopped it on the dyno. The result? Well, the guys said that 415 HP and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque. That’s at the wheels!

BMW advertises the car for 425 HP and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) of torque at the crank! With a small 10 percent transmission loss, the crank numbers reach up over 450 HP and 450 lb-ft (610 Nm) of torque and that is impressive already.

On top of that, our guy took the car to one of his preferred local shops and also weighed his beauty. The result? 3,461 lbs (1,569 kg). Is it that much? Let us just remind you that the E46 M3 tipped the scale at 3,415 lbs (1,549 kg). Is that difference really noticeable behind the wheel? I hardly think so…
