Real Elephant Car Wash, Flintstones Style

Do you remember The Flintstones, the animated television sitcom from the 1960s? Well, that’s exactly what crossed our minds when we found out what a safari park from Oregon thought of in order to beat the credit crunch... and it looks like it’s working.

Wildlife Safari is using elephants Tiki, Alice and big male George to wash cars and by that raise funds, consequently offering quite a spectacle for its customers, the Daily Mail reported. Luckily, no incident of an elephant putting his foot wrong when washing a car was reported.

However, in promoting the event on its Web site, the park declares: “Guaranteed not to get your car clean!!” The three pachyderms take turns sucking up about two gallons of water from a bucket to spray on the participating vehicles.

Moreover, they even simulate sponge cleaning. So, if you are willing to donate $20 for the experience of having an elephant spray, but not clean, your car, then you will be directed to a local professional carwash that will do it right, as a "thank you" gesture from the animal park.

The elephants seem to enjoy what they’re doing, or at least that is what Dan Van Slyke, the park’s executive director said. According to Van Slyke, “All the elephants love it too which is the important thing and they can't wait to get started and play with the water. George, our big male, is particularly good at blasting water out of his trunk, it's like a pressure washer, I'm always surprised he doesn't do any damage.”

Moreover, Van Slyke says this also attracts and satisfies the park’s visitors. “By doing this our visitors get a great chance to get up close to these magnificent creatures and the elephants get the chance to turn the tables on the humans for a change, we're entertaining them.”
