Childhood memories can vary a lot depending on the type of neighborhood each of us spend our early years in. Some remember that house tree the coolest kid on the street had, others will always remember that terrace on top of the 15-floor building they lived in. But in the city of Tomsk, Russia, children will always think of the real life tanks they're playing with at the playground.
Now, we all know Russians really like their military vehicles and we can get that since Americans themselves are quite familiar with the feeling. In fact, we recently reported how big a success the government’s first public Humveee auction was and how quickly all the military machines sold.

Then there’s that weird program through which the army is getting rid of their old rust buckets by donating them to public facilities around the country. We’re talking about schools receiving crazy army equipment including grenade launchers and armored military trucks. And we all know how much our fellow compatriots love their shotguns.

But still, we haven’t yet reached that level when kids literally grow up next to tanks that once were involved in real life wars. Reports hint that it is happening in the city of Tomsk, Russia, and what seemed to appear as a simple coincidence was later confirmed to be completely true.

There are all sorts of combat machines, such as tanks, armored military trucks and what not, that were all simply deposited in the middle of the playground or in the backyard of some residential apartment buildings.

The most dreadful one we can see in the pictures below, holding four big caliber guns, is in fact a lightly armored, self-propelled, radar guided anti-aircraft weapon system, known as the SPAAG. The fact that all vehicles are put on special concrete slabs leads us to believe they were put there on purpose, but feel free to prove us wrong in case you have other valuable information about these war machines.

Meanwhile, take a look at the photo gallery we put together and tell us your impression about the whole deal.
