Rat Trap Is a Classic Chevy Truck Turned Mud Racer

Some people treat their cars like they were made of glass. They wash them twice a week and worry about every single scratch, bird dropping and wheel dent. So it's refreshing to see something like this, a mud truck that likes to act just like a hippo and spends its days axle-deep in dirt.

The Rat Trap is a 4x4 mud racing rat rod truck, a one-of-a-kind model that sure as heck isn't shy about getting rough.

In the video below, you can watch it do a couple of very impressive runs during the 2014 4x4 Cross Throttle King Finale at Twitty’s Mud Bog.

So what are we looking at here? Well, it's pretty clear this mud lover started out as a late 30s Chevy Truck, though not much of it is left. The engine had to be sealed away from the bottom to avoid hydrolock, so we can't tell you what sort of mill is under there, but it sounds like a big V8.

A couple of modern truck axles take care of sending the power to those extra-wide mud tires and the suspension seems to have custom mounting points. And of course, the body of this old truck was never built to handle such power, torque or all-wheel drive for that mater. So it had to be beefed up with tubular bracing thought the body and bed.
