Sometimes one needs an uber-complex roof mechanism like that of the just-landed 992 Porsche 911 Targa to enjoy a drive (partially) exposed to the elements. On other occasions, though, a simple metallic sunroof will do the trick, with this type of hardware having been around for many decades. In fact, we're here to talk about a 1969 Dodge Charger fitted with a sunroof.
As you can easily notice in the images we have here, the Mopar machine was left at the mercy of the weather. And the prolonged neglect is clearly visible: the car is sunken into the ground, rust has went past the body panels and appears to have affected the frame, and there are only slight traces of what used to be a vinyl top.
The cabin also seems to be in pretty poor shape, the luggage compartment can hardly be defined anymore, while the engine bay is dominated by... vegetation.
Keep in mind that the sunroof was a rare option and while providing a number that's 100 percent certain can be difficult, it appears that less than 400 Chargers with the said options were built for the 1969 model year.
Fortunately, the passionate crew over at Mopars5150 has come across this piece of U.S. motoring history. And, as explained in the Instagram post below, the vehicle was rescued earlier this month.
Now, as the said gearheads aptly point out, the sheer color adorning the stunning shape of this Charger should’ve been enough to determine the previous owner(s) of the vehicle to at least store the thing in proper conditions, so it’s difficult life remains a mystery.
Now, this may or may not be turned into a stock proposal (heck, one commenter suggested a 69 Charger Daytona clone with a sunroof, which, admittedly, makes for an interesting concept). However, it's clear that the machine will receive the TLC it deserves.
