Launched in 1951, the “Fabulous” Hudson Hornet became famous for its successful NASCAR campaign, including three consecutive titles and 66 wins in 108 Grand National starts.
The road cars are also known for their “step-down” design and the Twin-H Power Straight Six engines sourced from the NASCAR racers. Only 35 of these Twin-H-powered road-going Hornets were built, which makes them scarce and expensive as well.
Amazingly enough, one of them showed up during Mecum Auctions’ second annual auction at the Anaheim Convention Center last week. The convertible Hornet switched owners for $150,000, falling only $30,000 short of the Hugger Orange 1969 COPO Camaro we told you about earlier today.
This 1953 Hudson Hornet is fitted with optional hydraulic windows and automatic transmission and has received a thorough restoration with less than 1,000 miles since completion.
