Compared with famous French actors such as Gerard Philipe and Jean Marais, as well as American actor James Dean, Alain Delon was even called the male Brigitte Bardot. Movies were not the only things he was quite great at, beautiful sportscars were too. The Ferrari 250GT SWB California Spider in question was found along with several other extremely rare breeds in what was called “the barn find of the century.”
Remember that incredible barn find that stormed the news last December. It was considered one of the biggest in history, with 60 rare cars untouched for 50 years found in France. Elite auction house Artcurial broke the news, announcing they have found the automotive equivalent of Tutankhamun’s tomb. One of those cars is a one of only 37 built who, for some time, was driven by the famous French actor.

It has the same owner since 1971, which adds a lot of value to its already incredible big price. Scaglietti revealed the 250 GT Spyder California SWB at Geneva, in 1960. Like the 250 GT Berlinetta SWB on which it was based, the updated Spyder also featured disc brakes and a 276 horsepower version of the three-liter V12 engine.

It was that popular, a fiberglass-bodied replica based on an MG, was featured in the 1986 film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Actors were also fond of the rare beauty and Alain Delon was quite often pictured at the wheel of the convertible collectable. The French actor, who currently lives in Switzerland, was photographed several times at the wheel of his ride, including in 1964 with Jane Fonda during the filming of “Les Felins” and on the Cote d’Azur with Shirley MacLaine.

The rare Ferrari will go under the hammer at Artcurial Motorcars' auction which will be held on Friday, February 6 at the Retromobile exhibition in Paris.
