Rare Dodge 330 Lightweight Factory Drag Car for Sale

Sold from 1962 through 1964 as an intermediate trim level placed above the Dart, the Dodge 330 was more than just a full-size sedan. Its two-door version was not only powered by Chrysler's most brawny engines, including the 426 cubic inch V8, but gained a Max Wedge with dual 4 barrel carburetors as well.

Moreover, the 330 was a successful drag car that has attained legendary status among Mopar enthusiasts and musclecar fans as well, especially while wearing the Ramchargers livery to its body. As it was rather common in the 1960s, the Dodge 330 also got a "Lightweight" factory-built variant, that came with aluminum hood, doors and front fenders, among other exclusive parts.

These cars are among the rarest and meanest Dodge 330s ever built and one of the main Chrysler efforts that led to the development of the infamous and frightening Ford Thunderbolt. Only 61 such 330 Lightweight vehicles were built in 1964 and probably a lot less are still out there in good shape. However, one of them just showed up on eBay and we couldn't pass the opportunity of writing about these wonderful performance machines.

The owner is asking $200,000 of "Best Offer" for it and you shouldn't say it's awfully expensive. The Hemi-powered 330 has undergone extensive restoration and it's fully documented. Moreover, the 425 HP engine is still mounted to the four-speed manual transmission Dodge had equipped it with. Note that 90% of them were sold with automatics. This "Red-on-Red" factory drag car is was also the national record holder in SS/BA in 1985 and was used in a Goodyear tire commercial ad during the 1992 Indianapolis 500. It's definitely a collectible factory super stock car and its mint condition make it even more valuable.

The vehicle is being offered for sale by Ray Skillman Collector Car Sales in Greenwood, Indiana.
