The Brits have been busy in these last few years, bringing out a series of new models from a variety of manufacturers. Amongst them you could find the Jaguar F-Type which is a truly great car but also the new Range Rover Sport Supercharged that we reviewed.
As you probably expected even before reading the full test drive, we included plenty of pictures from our adventure behind its wheel in the photo gallery. Fortunately for you, they can also be used as full HD wallpapers and you can tell your friends about how great the new Supercharged beast is.
And it truly is breathtaking. Compared to its predecessor, the new model is a lot lighter on its feet, shedding no less than 200 kg (440 lbs). That’s is a huge number that helps the new Range Rover Sport Supercharged reach the 62 mph (100 km/h) benchmark in 5.2 seconds, a full second faster than the old model.
It’s not just the pure acceleration that matters though. The engine is a carryover with an improved management unit, hooked up to a new 8-speed automatic gearbox that makes all the difference in the world. The 510 HP and 625 Nm (461 lb-ft) of torque are available on tap, just like you’d expect from a supercharged setup. You’ll be able to get up and go at any moment, no matter the speed you’re doing when you mash the gas pedal.
As is the custom with all cars wearing the Land Rover badge on the bonnet, this one too will deal with off roading quite easily, something we can’t say about its competitors. As a matter of fact, every other car out there that could claim the Range’s place is built by a company that isn’t necessarily known for its pedigree in challenging terrains. As we learned in the desert, even sand is not a problem for this car that will get out of any sticky situation.
However, all these goodies don’t come for cheap. And when we say cheap we’re not talking about the purchase price here, we’re talking about the long term commitment that requires a considerable effort. Sure, if you can buy one of these you can afford to fill it up but remember that the tank’s size is limited and you wouldn’t want to get stranded somewhere, even with all the money in the world.
