When deciding to buy a trailer, most people’s minds are set on peaceful picnics and just spending quality time with their families or friends. Not Land Rover people, not them, especially after having a Range Rover Sport Hybrid tow a 2.5-ton trailer to the Arctic Circle.
A few days ago we told you how Tesla put its Roadster 3.0 on a trip from San Jose to California. Yes, we know, that’s another story, the Roadster is an all-electric car while Range Rover Sport Hybrid is...well...a hybrid.
But, and there’s a but here, what the British hybrid SUV had to endure comes nowhere near the Roadsters’s joy ride in the sun. Maybe Land Rover are a bit too harsh on their products, or maybe they just want to show us how capable Range Rovers really are.
Either way, here’s your story. Land Rover teamed up with Airstream on an adventure to the Arctic Circle, but things got complicated when the Range Rover Sport Hybrid had to tow a 8.25-meter (27 ft.) travel trailer on a distance of 2,500 miles to Sweden, then on to the Arctic Circle.
Just to make an impression, the convoy had to go through temperatures which dropped to -22 degrees Celsius, powerful gales, snow and mirror-like icy roads. Basically, if hell was to freeze, that’s what it would look like. Which means the Range Rover Sport Hybrid had to use its 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to the very last drop in fulfilling such a horrible task.
Of course, things can go a lot worse when Mother Nature decides to have a bad day at the office. For example, temperatures around the Arctic Circle are known to reach -39 degrees Celsius in daytime, while over night they can go much lower than -42.
