Range Rover Evoque Coupe vs MINI Cooper S Paceman Review

Since MINI released the Paceman everyone in the automotive industry wondered in what segment should this new model go. According to MINI, the Paceman is a Coupe Crossover and it has only one rival: the Range Rover Evoque Coupe.

The guys from AutoGuide put together a short clip comparing the two cars that have a class of their own. The Paceman was in the Cooper S guise, fitted with the 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that delivers 181 HP and an automatic 6-speed gearbox (even though, it can also be fitted with a manual).

The Evoque came prepared with a bigger engine, a 2-liter turbocharged petrol unit that pushes out 240 HP and 251 lb-ft (340 Nm) of torque. So, the Range has around 60 extra HP and a 6-speed automatic gearbox as well.

Going over the interiors, you'll immediately feel that you're in the presence of premium quality. Both of them are perfectly finished and use quality materials. The Range has a bit of a plus for some extra room in the back, but considering that the MINI still has to obey some styling rules, we can't really put it to blame for this.

On the road, the MINI go-kart feeling is still there, even with the four-wheel-drive system and, even though you might think its engine is underpowered, you'll never feel it. Actually, the Paceman feels extremely quick on its feet and gives you a fast feeling, staying true to the saying that "It's better to go fast in a slow car than slow in a fast car".

There's no doubt about the Range's off road capabilities. After all, it does share part of its DNA with other models in the Range line-up and those cars are well known for these abilities. However, that can't be considered a plus since most of us will never take it off the tarmac.

Overall, according to AutoGuide, the Evoque wins but it's all up to you after all. If you think that the Range is worth an extra $15,000 just because it's taller, you should go for it. We, think otherwise though.
