Land Rover has officially confirmed production of their Range Rover Evoque Convertible, which means we might be seeing the cabrio SUV on display in Geneva, after spyshots hit the web last month.

Gone are the times when Land Rover was testing the water with their Evoque Cabriolet concept at 2012 Geneva Motor Show. The Brits, or better said, the Indians announced that the Range Rover Evoque Cabrio will go on sale in 2016 and marked the occasion with a short video.

Don’t think about flashing lights, VIPs and fancy locations, because what we’re talking here is an underground testing short movie. An by underground we mean deep in the heart of London, some 131 feet below street level.

The first prototype of the Evoque Convertible - being the star that it is - was permitted access to the 26-mile (42 km) network of Crossrail tunnels. This quickly became a playground for the SUV as engineers could actually drive the camo-covered test prototype which was lowered into the tunnel network by crane and had to overcome different obstacles while speeding through the 20-foot (6.2 meters) diameter tunnel.

Not your usual off-road location, but hey, who would ever use an Evoque for having fun in the mud, snow or rough terrain? Well, Land Rover will, according to Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programs: “the tunnels are still under construction, so we had a unique opportunity to explore the vehicle’s all-terrain ability in unchartered territory.” Yeah, right.

Anyway, you can find the video below, along with a photo gallery showing the Evoque Cabrio prototype having a blast inside London. Literally. There’s not much to see in terms of styling, but the convertible SUV will most likely adhere to the same design cues as the recently facelifted regular 3-door Evoque.
