Randy Pobst Flies Off the Road at Pikes Peak Aboard a Nissan GT-R

It seems like even the track-savvy Nissan GT-R isn’t as safe and precise as it used to be anymore. When the car came out initially, the world was amazed of how composed and precise it was on the track but some complained that there are too many electronics assisting you. Well, Randy Pobst probably could’ve used them at Pikes Peak earlier this week.

The veteran driver, one of the best in the business, took a modified GT-R on the famous track during the Time Attack 2 drive. He then proceeded to drive the hell out of it and ended up flying into a ditch, on the side of the road. Fortunately for him, the drop wasn’t all that high and he left the car unscathed but considerably shaken up.

As far as we can tell he carried too much speed into the corner and completely missed the apex for some reason. Randy said that it was a laps in judgement for a moment, one that could’ve cost him his life. Fortunately, he wasn’t injured in any way but the 2009 Nissan was probably scrapped.

Seeing such footage really puts things in perspective. If an experienced driver like Randy could go through such a mishap, what can be expected of all these wannabe racers we get to watch make a fool out of themselves every day? At least Pobst was driving in a proper racing car with a roll cage and all sorts of safety features that saved his life. In everyday traffic, things like that don’t exist and fatalities are much easier to come by.

In the meantime, we’re just glad he’s ok and, to get a better idea of how much of a sweet guy he is (in case you don’t already know him), just check out how he waves at the spectators that are watching him do his thing. It’s a rare thing these days!
