Randy Pobst Drives the DTM BMW M3 and Z4 GT3

In case you didn’t know who Randy Pobst is, you should be ashamed of yourself. He’s the guy that test drives all the cars that venture at Motor Trend’s headquarters, squeezing every bit of performance out of them on Laguna Seca.

He’s also a proper race car driver, nicknamed “The Rocket”. I think you get the point, right? The man knows how to drive and he’s been invited by BMW in Spain to test drive the DTM BMW M3 and the Z4 GT3 before the Motorsport division of the Bavarians change their minds.

Saying that he had fun would be a rude understatement. He had a blast! The first car he got into was the Z4. Of course, he found a couple of flaws with it but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

Then he climbed inside the M3. What a machine! He’s the type of guy that always looks for downsides to every racing car he drives. This time he couldn’t find any apart from wanting more power on that great chassis. Too bad the DTM Rules don’t allow that though.

By the end, he was 1.3 seconds behind Bruno Spengler whose car he drove but that didn’t even matter. What does matter, though, is that he will be driving the F80 M3 this year, a car that will, most likely, be brilliant also. Check out his thoughts on Motor Trend.
