The Chrysler Group recently announced it’s recalling heaps of pickup trucks. According to the American manufacturer, the voluntary call back covers 149,150, all of them located in the United States and other territories. All workhorses involved may develop a glitch with front passenger-side airbag inflators.
Chrysler is informing there have been concerns about improper airbag deployment. Apparently, the previously mentioned population of pickups have been sold in seven US states, as well as five other territories. The Detroit giant highlights that it’s unaware of any related injuries or crash situations involving the defective airbags.
To boot, the Chrysler Group hasn’t observed any failures in laboratory testing of its airbag ensembles. The automaker tells that these very inflators have been linked to 2 failures in cars produced by different brands, not Chrysler. In these incidents, which occurred in southern Florida and Puerto Rico, airbag deployment was accompanied by ruptured components.
The automaker doesn’t specify who’s the supplier of these airbags, but it seems like it all boils down to a too explosive propellant mix. Another tell-tale sign regarding who’s to blame for this mess-up (*cough* Takata Corp *cough*) is the following claim: “The pickups are among nine vehicle lines subject to an earlier regional field action to replace inflators in certain cars and trucks purchased or registered in Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands.”
