As promised back in February, Ram Trucks has revealed the first-ever Diesel-powered pickup truck. Introduced for 2014 model year, the new diesel Ram 1500 sports the company’s 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 also found in the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Rated at 240 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque, the EcoDiesel Ram is said to offer towing capabilities similar to that of the 5.7-liter Hemi V8 Ram with better fuel efficiency. No actual figures have been release at the time of writing, so we’re just going to have to wait for Chrysler’s estimates before drawing any conclusions.

Offered as an option, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine will add an extra $2,850 to the 2014 Ram 1500, which has a starting price of $24,200, not including the $1,095 destination fee.

Aside from the diesel mill, the new Ram 1500 will become available with a Pentastar V6 and a 5.7-liter Hemi V8. All engines are mated to the eight-speed automatic transmission.
